Qualifications for Staff
Applicants must be at least 14 years old by June 15, to be considered for a position as an C.I.T. (Counselor in Training)
Applicants for Junior Counselor must be at least 17 years and have completed sophomore status in high school.
Applicants for Senior Counselors must have completed at minimum one year of college, or equivalent work experience before the summer session commences.
Applicants for Activity Areas (only) must be 18 years of age, provide adequate supplemental materials demonstrating knowledge, skill, ability to provide leadership of activity. Preferred applicants will have completed at least one year of college or equivalent life/work experience.

ALL Applicants who are selected are required to complete a background check, including fingerprints, and sex / predator offenders search prior to June 15. Camp will pay for these screenings
Counselors must

Supervise groups of campers 6 days a week

Possess the ability to carry out camp programs over a 16 hour day, outdoors in the Florida summer climate.

Maintain a positive attitude while providing a safe and fun atmosphere for campers

Have the ability to provide high level of verbal communication (nonverbal as predicated) and written communication with supervisors and parents as needed.

Actively teach or co-teach classes or special areas as pre-determined upon hire.

Be able to step in and assist peers when needed, or to cover in case of illness to another.

Be physically able to be outdoors, and move around wilderness terrain, with some proficiency.

Be able to perform moderate amounts of physical labor as needed, such as carrying, lifting, and moving objects

Be able to perform for campers physical lifting, transferring, predominantly in a tandem method

Work each day to carry out RYC’s camp mission to enrich the physical, emotional, and social lives of campers by providing fun, friendship, exploration and growth.
